Find Freedom from Eyeglass Frames
Sure, eyeglasses can be funky, fresh, and add pizzazz to your style. But, sometimes wearing glasses doesn’t suit your active lifestyle, or you tend to forget them, drop them, or break them. (Yeah, we’ve all been there!)
Well, contact lenses could be your saving grace. So, we take care of the nitty-gritty: first with an in-depth contact lens exam, then a customized fitting, and send you on your way with comfortable, form-fitting contact lenses that give you frame-free vision correction.
Customized Fit for Your Eyes
When you transition into wearing contact lenses, we want them to fit comfortably and mitigate any irritation. To customize your lenses, we create a contact lens prescription by measuring and assessing the following parts of your eyes:
- The curvature of your cornea
- Your pupil and iris sizes (the color and black part of the eye)
- The health of your tear film to see if you have dry eyes
If you’re thinking, “why can’t I use my eyeglasses prescription for contact lenses?” Well, they differ greatly because of where the lens is positioned. Glasses sit away from your eye, whereas contacts adhere directly on top. So, they require distinct prescriptions—they are not interchangeable.
Our doctors are certified and trained in fitting all types of contact lenses for regular use and ocular diseases, including keratoconus, and corneal conditions.
Contact Lens Options
When we have your contact lens exam results, we can move onto the next step: choosing the proper lens for your eyes. If you have a refractive error, we may recommend hybrid lenses, but if you have an issue that needs a little more tenderness, soft contact lenses may be right for you. Learn about your contact lens options.
Scleral Lenses
Scleral lenses are customized large-diameter rigid gas permeable lenses. These specialty contact lenses are ideal for anyone and everyone, including those with a corneal condition, like keratoconus. The size is much larger than standard contact lenses. As such, they cover your cornea while resting on the sclera, the white part of your eye.
Scleral lenses may also be more comfortable for patients dealing with severe dry eyes that impact their ability to wear regular contact lenses.
Hybrid Lenses
Hybrid contact lenses describe lenses that combine regular rigid gas-permeable lenses with a layer made of soft materials, hence the “hybrid” in their name. This lens may be more suitable for anyone who has had difficulty with contact lens comfort in the past. Hybrid lenses, like most contact lenses, help correct any refractive errors you may have.
Soft Lenses for Keratoconus
Keratoconus refers to the eye condition where the cornea (transparent layer over the front of the eye) warps and bulges into a cone shape. This can make wearing standard contact lenses intolerable. So, we recommend custom contact lenses made of a softer material, like silicone hydrogel, which adheres comfortably to the eye and allows oxygen to pass through easily.
